The Authors

Christine Stoiber Fahlund’s professional career began teaching molecular biology at Vassar College.  She went on to fund raising, private banking, personal trust services, and designing personal financial planning services as Vice President and Senior Financial Planner at T. Rowe Price.  She was a popular lecturer on financial planning and served as the public face for T. Rowe Price to the financial media.  She graduated from Mt. Holyoke College and has a Ph.D. from The Five Colleges: Mt. Holyoke, Smith, Amherst, Hampshire, and the University of Massachusetts.

Gregory Fahlund began his career teaching constitutional law at Vassar College, then turned to college and university administration.  He was the Dean of Students at Beloit College, the Vice President for External Affairs at Lawrence University, and the Vice President for Development at Wesleyan University in Connecticut.  He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and has M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Massachusetts.  He is also a licensed home renovation contractor, a sailor with a fifty-ton Coast Guard Master’s license, and the author of two volumes of poetry.

As a husband-and-wife team, we have collaborated on this project for more than fifty years, pursuing the story of Christine's great, great aunt Lena.  It has taken us from Silverton, Colorado to Seattle, Charleston, Paris, and Stresa, Italy.  Christine's background has lent the project the methodical eye of a scientist while Greg’s knowledge of American history has provided a synthesis of those details with Lena’s life and times.  Chris has done most of the biographical research and Greg has written most of the narrative. We have two sons, Andrew and Erik, and a grandson, Zachary. We divide their time between Baltimore, Maryland and Monterey, Massachusetts.
